Mistletoe (R and J)The lovers’ forms indeed were raised in gold,
As settled in the broken fathers’ words,
That through the years their story would be told.
At first the pair were favored by the birds,
Who perched on Romeo’s head or Juliet’s hand,
There in the name of peace allowed to stand.
Then came the day when there were no more wings,
And no more feet upon the metal chill.
This put a youth in mind of dismal things,
Who’d had enough of all pale, cold, and still.
He looked upon the monument, this boy,
And thought of ways to add a touch of joy.
Some winter leaves upon a wire he strung
And stole back to the statues in the snow
That soon between the lovers’ heads was hung
A shining sprig of makeshift mistletoe.
He sighed and smiled and gazed upon the scene
Turned wistful by his gift of love and green.
Don't Go Where I Can't Guide You He was light and heat, spirit and passion. It had rained intermittently that morning, but nothing could quench him. He was marching beside me, grinning and laughing for excitement, having such fun and so overtly that I wondered if Enjolras would approve.
He was brandishing his sword-cane in the air and singing these joyous and awful songs, making up slogans, and basically being joyous and awful Courfeyrac. I was watching him with an involuntary but welcome smile. I knew he would be prudent enough. He always had been the man who could be sober and jovial almost simultaneously. He was careful enough with his sword so as not to make anyone an unwilling target. He marched, he did not run, for fear of eventually exhausting himself or being cut off from the group, both valid concerns. The only things which he did not moderate were his astonishing gaiety and fervor.
When the chorus of shots broke into the chorus of
Learn How to Love"Do you like her, Steven? Isn't she lovely?" Pearl grinned proudly as the baby in Amethyst's lap swiped at the hologram.
"We loved her, Steven." *picks him up* "But we… we like you, too." *kisses his forehead*
Amethyst lowered her eyelids. "/Like/ him. Be glad he's too little to understand your subtleties."
"I'm trying, Amethyst.” Pearl sighed. “It's not like /you/ know what to do with a human baby."
"Nuh-uh! I know what to do!"
"May I remind you? You put him in that little- harness or whatever, and suspended it from a giant stone finger whilst /you/ went to-"
"All I needed to do was run back for a few extra supplies! I didn't want to carry him."
"Sandwich supplies for you! You who can lift fifty times your own weight! Do you know what his father would have-"
"Nothing I couldn't protect myself from."
"That's not the point."
"Well maybe I'm not the point!"
"Of course you're not! Steven's the point.”
"Exactly. The point. Is. Steven!"
Pearl looked at the
